4D The Structure of Matter #1
All matter is made up of atoms, which are far too small to see directly through a microscope....

4D The Structure of Matter #2
Equal volumes of different substances usually have different weights....

4D The Structure of Matter #5
Scientific ideas about elements were borrowed from some Greek philosophers of 2,000 years earlier, who believed that everything was made from four basic substances: air, earth, fire, and water....

4D The Structure of Matter #6
There are groups of elements that have similar properties, including highly reactive metals, less-reactive metals, highly reactive nonmetals (such as chlorine, fluorine, and oxygen), and some almost completely nonreactive gases (such as helium and neon)....

4D The Structure of Matter #7
No matter how substances within a closed system interact with one another, or how they combine or break apart, the total weight of the system remains the same....

The Cyber-rific Periodic Table of the Elements

http://www.bayerus.com/MSMS/MSMS_Education_Resources_Activities/ResourcesSTP/ScienceFun/PeriodicTable/PeriodicTableIntro.aspx

Description

Molecule Man introduces students to the Cyber-rific Periodic Table of the Elements, which features a very colorful and intuitive interface. As students interact with the table, they see brief descriptions of the elements. Rolling over an element displays information about its atomic number, weight, room temperature, and common uses. Clicking on the element provides information about the element's history and materials in which it is commonly found.

Using the Resource

This Flash-based site effectively engages students and helps achieve the stated goal of helping "science make sense." The site can be used by individuals or groups and provides useful information for students in grades 3-8. Students can explore the content and take an interactive quiz to test their knowledge.
