Becoming a Scientist
http://www.hhmi.org/becoming/

Description
This resource contains 11 video clips of prominent biomedical researchers responding to the question: What qualities do you need to succeed in biomedical research? All of the researchers are Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigators. Transcripts are available on the site. Links are also provided to other HHMI resources that provide further information about the researcher's work.

Using the Resource
Before students view the videos, you should discuss what qualities they think are needed to be a successful researcher. After they have explored the resource, you can compare the student responses to those of the researchers. Ask students if any of the responses were surprising or unexpected.
