5A Diversity of Life #5
All organisms, including the human species, are part of and depend on two main interconnected global food webs....
5D Interdependence of Life #1
In all environments freshwater, marine, forest, desert, grassland, mountain, and others organisms with similar needs may compete with one another for resources, including food, space, water, air, and shelter....
5D Interdependence of Life #2
Two types of organisms may interact with one another in several ways: They may be in a producer/consumer, predator/prey, or parasite/host relationship....
5F Evolution of Life #1
Small differences between parents and offspring can accumulate (through selective breeding) in successive generations so that descendants are very different from their ancestors....
5F Evolution of Life #2
Individual organisms with certain traits are more likely than others to survive and have offspring....
5F Evolution of Life #3

Coral Reef Connections
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/survival/coral/index.html

Description
This resource explores Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the largest structure on Earth built by living organisms. Consisting of almost 3000 individual reefs, the Great Barrier Reef houses an incredible array of biodiversity. This resource demonstrates the types of relationships among living things that have contributed to this incredible biodiversity and elaborates on some of the adaptations that have enabled species to survive and reproduce in this unique habitat.

Using the Resource
This resource has a great deal of information. Younger students might need some instruction and practice in moving the cursor around the screen and taking advantage of all of the features. For example, if students are interested in a particular species displayed on the screen, they must select a relationship type that applies to that species or the information will not be available.
