http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngkids/0103/yoyos/index.html

Description
This site covers the resurgence in popularity of the yo-yo in recent years. It is divided into several sections which provide background information on yo-yos, some discussion about new technology that has made the toy easier to use, tips for getting ready to yo-yo, and directions on how to do some of the more popular yo-yo tricks. The directions are accompanied by illustrations that make it easy to visualize how to hold and throw a yo-yo.

Using the Resource
This resource can be used to help introduce beginners to the fun of yo-yoing. Since the site provides some basic instruction on how to use a yo-yo, students can use that information to become comfortable using the toy before moving on to more advanced tricks. The resource could be very useful in a classroom setting where you are using yo-yos to help students learn about the scientific method or some basic ideas about motion and forces. For instance, you could lead students through some of the tricks described on the site and add some of your own guiding questions to help students understand what is happening in terms of force and motion as they throw the yo-yo. You could also have students design some experiments to test various hypotheses. For example, students could vary the length of the string to determine if it has any affect on the yo-yo's performance.
