SeaWorld

http://www.seaworld.org

Target Audience
Grades -   3-5   6-8   9-12

This site is packed with definitions, fun games, classroom lessons, songs and poems, simple black and white and colorful graphics, animal facts and descriptions of habitat, conservation suggestions, lists of books, and other resources. “Sea World Songs from Camp Sea World” are poems for young children that can be sung to familiar tunes. “Habitat Match,” “Sand Scramble,” and “Word Search Games” are appropriate for older elementary children. “Animal Bytes” is an online dictionary. “Diversity of Life” includes a teacher's guide for grades 7-12 with goals, objectives, vocabulary, taxonomy, and classification. There are suggestions/instructions for maintaining an aquarium as a hobby. There is specific and detailed information about particular animals and especially endangered species that could be used for student reports. There are information booklets available for $6 each, but there is minimal promotion of Sea World as an Entertainment Park or playground. Highly recommended for parents, teachers, and children.

**Updated 8/10/01:
The SeaWorld site continues to be a good resource about wild animals (their habits and behavior, as well as information about their conservation) for teachers and students alike. The two sections of the site that are most worthwhile for teachers and students are: Animal Resources and Teacher Guides. In the Animal Resources section, visitors can find fact sheets on a variety of animal species, including: Beluga Whales, Birds of Prey, Bottlenose Dolphins, Clydesdales, etc. Something that has been added to this section since it was reviewed is a link to a section on the SeaWorld San Diego Botanical Gardens, with information about the many plants found at the San Diego Zoo. In the Teacher Guides section, educators can find guides on topics ranging from the Diversity of Life to SeaWorld Physics. This site is well worth a visit.
