Target Audience
Grades - 6-8 9-12

The site currently contains 150 insect photographs from California, Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia and Hawaii. They are arranged by Order and there is descriptive information for each. Many of the photos are close-up views of part of the insect's body and might be useful in talking about insect structure and adaptation. There is a page on butterfly wing design that contains photographs of the details of butterfly wings. There is a discussion of how wing patterns may provide protective coloration and pattern. The photos could be incorporated into an exercise on variation and adaptation. There are links to a number of good sites on insects and articles from a magazine called "Cultural Insect Digest" on a variety of topics related to insects. The site has interesting photographs and information on insects, in spite of the fact that the insects are only from a few geographical areas.
