National Parks: America's Best Idea

There are close to 400 National Parks in 49 of the 50 states protecting land for the enjoyment of all people. Capturing the amazing history behind this endeavor is The National Parks: America's Best Idea, a new film by Ken Burns airing on PBS starting Sunday, September 27. This series covers nearly 150 years, including the idea's beginnings, the creation of new parks, and all the struggles along the way.

Explore further in your classroom using this collection of related Science NetLinks resources. Students can play the role of an elk in Yellowstone, learn about conservation in the Everglades, and use a simulator to explore techniques used to fight wildfires.
