Earth Science Week 2009 Earth Science Week

October 11-17 marks Earth Science Week 2009. The theme "Understanding Climate" will highlight the timely topic of global warming while promoting studies of the natural world and celebrating the geosciences. Explore in your classroom with this new collection of resources from Science NetLinks. Students can track earthquake activities worldwide, build models of the water cycle, and learn about earth's magnetic field.

 
   
Tsunami Wave

Tsunami Resources

Science NetLinks has created two new tools to aid in discussions you may be having in your classroom after the recent disaster in Samoa. Tsunamis: Know What to Do! helps elementary school students learn the basic concepts of tsunamis and safety preparedness. For middle- and high-school students, Science of a Tsunami examines the causes of this force of nature and includes news footage from Samoa and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Earth Science Week 2009 Health Literacy Month

Designed to promote the importance of understandable health information, October has been designated Health Literacy Month. Celebrate in your class and consider using this collection of health literacy resources by Science NetLinks and AAAS. Students can learn how germs affect the body, discuss human behavior and mental health, or become detectives in a food poisoning mystery.

 
   
Naitonal Day on Writing National Day on Writing

October 20th is the National Day on Writing and marks the opening of the AAAS Writing about Science Gallery. Have you and your students submitted pieces yet? We'd love to hear how science writing, fiction or nonfiction, has impacted your lives. Tell us about a favorite book you've read or even about something you've written.
